In
the last part
of this mini-series, we introduced the Achensee region, which is in the northeast of Tyrol. Today we will present its southwest, specifically the Paznaun valley. Again, this is a place I was invited to by the Tirol Werbung tourism agency, so again you can count on the locals knowing where to invite guests. The article describes all the cross-country trails that the Paznaun valley has to offer and the public transport there, both of which have been tested by me personally.

Tyrol has given the world quite a few phenomena. Random: Swarowski jewelry and cut glass (with a Czech trace, as the founder came from Jiřetín pod Bukovou), the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck in 1964 (which the organizers managed to organize despite the huge thaw) and in 1972 (hastily assigned to Innsbruck instead of the collapsing Denver), now already legendary Worldcup in road cycling in 2019 there with the brutally selective uphill Höttinger Höll (nicknamed thanks to the up to 28% ascent Höttinger Hell), Tyrolean hats, great cheeses, yodeling, there would be quite a lot. What’s more, Tyrol has got breathtaking mountains and their valleys, which attract hikers, cyclists and skiers from all over the world all year round. Thanks to the invitation of the Tyrolean tourist agency Tirol Werbung, I have had the opportunity to explore the cross-country trails, which are characterized by being high and at the same time easily accessible from the Czech Republic by public transport. In the first part, we will introduce the surroundings of Lake Achensee, followed by an article about cross-country skiing in the Paznaun valley.
